Tanetsuna KUTSUKI (the lord of Tsuchiura Domain) (朽木稙綱 (土浦藩主))

Tanetsuna KUTSUKI (1605 - January 13, 1661) was a daimyo (Japanese feudal lord) in the early Edo period. He was the lord of Kutsuki Domain in Omi Province. He was the lord of Kanuma Domain in Shimotsuke Province and the first Lord of Tsuchiura Domain in Hitachi Province. He was the first lord of the Kutsuki family in Fukuchiyama Domain.

He was the third son of Mototsuna KUTSUKI. He was a younger brother of Nobutsuna KUTSUKI. His lawful wife was the daughter of Masanari INABA, and his second wife was an adopted daughter of Shigenaga ANDO (daughter of Tadamune SHIMIZU). His children included Tanemasa KUTSUKI (oldest son), Noritsuna KUTSUKI (second son), a daughter (lawful wife of Yasutsugu MIURA), and a daughter (lawful wife of Toshinaga KINOSHITA). His official court rank was Jugoinoge (Junior Fifth Rank, Lower Grade), Minbu shoyu (Junior Assistant Minister of Popular Affairs).

On October 29, 1618, he started to serve Iemitsu TOKUGAWA, the third Shogun. He was appointed to Minbu shoyu in 1623. On June 20, 1631, he was appointed to the chief of the bodyguard of the Shogun, and two years later, on August 28, 1633, he became the chief of military patrol. On December 29, 1635, he became chief of the bodyguard of the Shogun again and also served as wakadoshiyori (a managerial position in Edo bakufu). In 1636, he gained additional properties to become daimyo with 10000 koku, and founded Omi Kutsuki Domain.

After that, he gained 10000 koku of additional properties on September 30, 1639, gained 5000 more koku on January 8, 1648, and became the lord of the Shimotsuke Kanuma Domain. On March 31, 1649, he was excused from wakadoshiyori, gained 30000 koku, and changed the territory to Hitachi Tsuchiura Domain. On December 1, he was appointed to sojaban (an official in charge of the ceremonies).
